Email Account Setup

To sign up for a Lingdale Golf Club members area account you require your own email address. If you currently do not have an email addres or share an email address with a spouse or friend then you will need to set up an email account unique to yourself.

There are a couple of ways this can be done:

1) If you have a broadband service you can usually create multiple email accounts. As there are many broadband providers we cannot give more detail here and you will need to check with your broadband provider on how to do this.

OR the easy way...

2) You can set up a free Google email account here: http://mail.google.com/mail/signup . The setup process is a single page form and should only take a minute or two to set up. There follows a detailed step by step Google email signup guide:

  • You will need to enter your first name and last name in the first two boxes.
  • Next choose your email login name which will become your email address. So for example putting fredbloggs in as the desired login name would give you a unique email address of fredbloggs@googlemail.com .
You will see this name has already been taken when you click the check availability button so you can either take one of the suggestions or will need to get more creative with your chosen name! Ideally try not to use numbers in your name as it can cause confusion when dictating the address to others over the phone for example. And make a note of your password in a safe place!
  • When you have a login name you next need to set a password so enter this into the choose a password box. You will then need to retype this password in to the re-enter password box below.
  • If you leave the Remember me on this computer checkbox ticked then your email account will automatically log in when you access it. Leave this ticked if the computer you are currently on is your own private computer, otherwise untick this.
  • You can check or uncheck the Enable Web History checkbox as desired, it has no effect on email functionality. If you have privacy concerns then uncheck it.
  • Choose a security question from the dropdown list and enter the answer in the box below.
  • Optionally you can enter an existing secondary email address, but this is not necessary.
  • Location will usually be United Kingdom and should be correct by default.
  • The word verification can be tricky but is a security measue to help prevent fraudulant mass generation of email accounts. You will need to enter the letters as shown. If you get it wrong you will be able to try again with a new set of letters, but you wil have to retype your desired password again as well as entering the new word verification letters.
  • Finally read the terms of service and click the I accept. Create my account. button at the bottom.
You should now show a Congratulations page and you can click the I'm ready - show me my account link in the top right of the screen.

To access your email in the future you will use http://mail.google.com and log in with your username (e.g. fregbloggs) and password that you entered when signing up. When logged in to your new email account there are online help pages available by clicking the Help link at the top right of the page.

You can now use your new email address (e.g. fredbloggs@googlemail.com) to sign up for a Lingdale Golf Club members account.
