Olympic Champion Dr David Hemery CBE recently paid a visit to Lingdale Golf Club.
He was here as part of his involvement with 21st Century Legacy, a charity that he formed to support young people to enable them to fulfil their dreams and ambitions. The ‘Be the Best you can Be’ programme is designed to inspire young people to achieve their potential. It has already been successfully piloted and has been seen to raise aspirations, build confidence and help them take greater personal responsibility.
His gold medal came in the 400m during the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico and his feat also broke the world record at that time. His performance helped him win the 1968 BBC Sports Personailty of the Year. He followed this up with a bronze medal at the 1972 Games in Munich.
