PRESS RELEASE
MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIP FOR LINGDALE GOLF CLUB
Lingdale Golf Club has been chosen to host the English Golf Union Midlands Amateur Team Championship for the first time on 19th June 2010.
The Championship is only held in Leicestershire once in every 10 years and next year’s event has been planned to coincide with Leicestershire and Rutland Golf Union’s Centenary Year.
Mike Wicks, Captain in 2010 said “ We feel very honoured and excited that Lingdale has been chosen to host this prestigious event from the many other great golf courses in Leicestershire and Rutland.
“It is made all the more prestigious the fact we will be celebrating Leicestershire and Rutland’s 100th birthday”. We look forward to welcoming everyone next year”.
Tony Harper, President, Leicestershire and Rutland Golf Union said: The Team Championship is a major event and I am delighted that Lingdale has been chosen to host it particularly in our centenary year.”
“During a visit to the course in 1989 Tony Jacklin said that Lingdale probably has the toughest opening three holes in the Midlands, so I am sure that the teams will find it a good test of golf in the most magnificent of settings.
Ten teams of six players from across the Midlands will play thirty six holes with all six scores to count . The winning team will then go on to represent the Midlands region in the national team championship finals.
